Dermaplaning facial treatment: 3–4 week timeline and how to extend results

I hear it all the time, especially from people who love results that look natural and clean: how long does dermaplaning last? Most people see that hair-free smoothness and fresh exfoliation for about 3–4 weeks. The exact timing depends on how quickly your vellus hair grows, your skin type, San Francisco sun exposure (foggy days count too), and how gently you treat your skin for the first few days after.
The 3–4 week dermaplane facial timeline (and what changes it)
Here’s the honest breakdown I give in the studio when someone wants predictable timing for meetings, events at City Hall, or just that “my skin looks expensive” moment without heavy makeup.
Days 1–7: This is peak "glass-skin" smooth. Makeup tends to sit better, and skincare usually absorbs more evenly.
Weeks 2–3: You’ll still feel smoother and look brighter. This is when most people say their skin looks more polished in daylight.
Weeks 3–4: Vellus hair growth starts to become more noticeable to you, especially if you pay attention up close. The glow can hang on, but it depends a lot on your routine.
A few things change the timeline fast. Oily or combination skin often “rebuilds” surface texture sooner. Aggressive acids too early can irritate and make your skin look less calm. And even though San Francisco’s climate is mild and often foggy, UV still comes through, so daily SPF matters if you want that brighter look to stick around.
Quick reality check: dermaplaning is an exfoliation service. You’re not “removing hair forever.” What you’re buying is a smoother surface and a consistent refresh you can time every few weeks.
How I help you stretch dermaplaning results past week 2
My dermaplaning facial treatment is 45 minutes and starts at $150. I focus on getting you that smooth finish without leaving your skin feeling stripped. Your service includes a Vitamin C mask and anti-aging infusers to support a fresh, nourished look after exfoliation.
And yes, I see a pattern with people who love long-lasting results. The ones who stay consistent with simple basics are usually the ones who stay obsessed. One of my regulars put it perfectly:
"I have been going to Lena for many many years! She does the best eye lash extensions in the business ….. I get compliments from people daily! I have also just started dermaplaning with her and am in love with this service she is offering!"

A simple 72-hour plan that makes a real difference
- SPF every morning. Fog doesn’t mean zero UV. This is the number one way to keep that even, bright look going in San Francisco.
- Keep cleansing gentle for 2–3 days. Think mild cleanser, lukewarm water, pat dry. No scrubbing.
- Pause retinoids and strong acids for 48–72 hours. That includes stronger AHAs and anything that tingles aggressively.
- Hydrate lightly. A simple moisturizer helps your barrier stay calm, which helps your glow read smoother for longer.
- Skip extra exfoliation tools. No at-home dermaplane tools, no harsh grainy scrubs, no overdoing it with cleansing brushes.
If you’re mixing services: I recommend avoiding chemical peels or laser for at least 2 weeks after dermaplaning. If you want something in-between, stick to gentle, hydrating skincare treatments so your skin stays calm.
If you’re building a full beauty routine, dermaplaning pairs nicely with my other work that keeps things looking natural, like eyebrow threading, brow lamination, lash lifts, and eyelash extensions. People often search “facials near me” or “lash lift near me” because they want one spot that stays consistent. That’s how I run my studio.
Results fade early when these 4 habits sneak in
Dermaplaning looks best when your skin stays calm. Most early “it didn’t last” moments come back to a few fixable things.
- Too much sun, not enough SPF: even in a mild SF month, UV can keep pigmentation and texture looking “busier.”
- Jumping back into strong actives too soon: it can trigger irritation, which makes skin look rougher.
- Over-cleansing: stripping your barrier tends to make oil rebound and texture show up faster.
- Stacking treatments too close together: give your skin a little breathing room if you’re also doing peels, lasers, or intense exfoliation.
When to rebook dermaplaning in Civic Center, without overdoing it
For most people, I recommend rebooking dermaplaning every 3–6 weeks. If you love that constantly smooth, polished look, closer to 3 to 4 weeks tends to keep results consistent. If you want an occasional refresh before a trip, photos, or a work stretch where you need your skin to behave, 5 to 6 weeks often works fine.
A lot of my clients stay with me for years because they want reliability and a calm studio. I keep it pressure-free. If a service isn’t right for you, I’ll say so. And if you’re also looking for “eyelash extensions near me, ” “microblading near me, ” or lashes near me that look natural, you can keep your skincare, brows, and lashes in one place.

A quick note if you’re comparing dermaplaning to facials near me
A dermaplane facial is my go-to for instant smoothness and a more even surface. If your main goal is hydration or calming redness, you might do better with a different facial and schedule dermaplaning as your “polish” every few weeks. If you’re building a bigger plan that also includes eyebrow lamination, brow lamination, lash lifts, lash tints, eyelash extensions, or microblading, I’ll keep the timing sensible so your skin stays happy.
