Consultation Timelines: 15–60 Minutes and How to Make Results Last
By True U Aesthetics | August 17, 2026
We hear it all the time in our San Francisco studio: you want a plan that looks natural and still gets the “wow” compliments. Most consultations run 15–60 minutes. The exact time depends on what we’re planning, how many options we’re comparing, and how much history we need to review so your next steps feel clear, not rushed.
Our consultation appointment slot is typically 30 minutes, and we use that time to look at your current routine, your “wish list” photos, and what you want your results to do in real life. If you’re coming in through the Van Ness Corridor or Civic Center (Lower Nob Hill area), this is also a great quick stop before work, after work, or between MUNI and BART connections at Civic Center.
15–60 minutes: the consultation timeline we actually see (and what changes it)
Here’s the honest range, broken down in a way that helps you plan your day.
Skincare check and product review: 15–30 minutes
Best if you’re trying to clean up a routine that’s gotten complicated, dealing with irritation, or you want a simple plan before an event. If you bring your current products, this tends to move fast.
Injectable or combined planning: 30–45 minutes
This is the “I want it natural, but I want to see a difference” conversation. We spend more time on goals, facial balance, and what you want to keep looking like you.
Complex assessment and multi-option planning: 45–60 minutes
If you’ve tried a few things before, you’re balancing multiple concerns, or you want to compare several paths, we’ll slow down and map it out so you’re not guessing later.
What makes a consult run longer is usually simple: a deeper medical history, photo assessment, measurements, and time spent reviewing options so you don’t leave with unanswered questions. San Francisco’s climate matters too. Wind, sun, and day-to-day exposure can change how your skin behaves, which changes what we recommend and how we schedule your maintenance.
Quick reality check: The goal of a consultation isn’t to “sell you more.” It’s to keep your results looking clean and natural, and to make sure the plan fits your schedule, budget, and comfort level.
Make your consultation advice last longer with 7 simple habits
A consultation is short. The value is what you do after you walk out the door. Our long-time brow clients often mention how much they appreciate the time we take during the visit, because details up front make everything easier later.
"I had my brows done (micro blading/powder). The numbing was top notch. Of course I had my consult prior and then made my appointment. The BEST!!! I love her work and the time she took with my brows. Client for life!!!!"

- Bring your real routine. Toss your products in a bag or take clear photos of labels. It stops us from guessing what’s causing dryness, breakouts, or dullness.
- Bring a medication list. Even supplements count. It helps us steer you away from ingredients that can be too much for your skin.
- Bring reference pictures that match your vibe. Natural, soft glam, bold, lifted. The clearer your examples, the faster we land on a plan you actually want.
- Keep a photo and date log for 2–4 weeks. Same lighting, same angle, quick notes. It makes follow-ups way more useful than trying to remember “I think it was better last week.”
- Set calendar reminders for maintenance. If you’re the type who forgets until the day before an event, reminders save you a lot of stress.
- Follow the homecare we recommend consistently. Consistency is what makes results look reliable. And yes, San Francisco weather swings can make consistency even more important.
- Tell us what you’re nervous about. We’re used to first-timers who’ve had a bad experience elsewhere. We’ll walk you through options without pressure.
Why results fade early: 5 fixable mistakes we see in San Francisco
When people feel like their results “didn’t last, ” it’s often one of these issues. None of this is meant to be preachy. It’s just what tends to throw off a great plan.
- Changing too many products at once. If everything is new, you can’t tell what’s helping or irritating.
- Overdoing exfoliation. A “tight and squeaky” feeling usually means your barrier is stressed.
- Skipping sunscreen on foggy days. SF fog still lets UV through, and that shows up as stubborn discoloration and texture.
- Waiting too long to check in. Small tweaks early can save you months of frustration.
- Not telling us the full story. Let us know what you’ve tried, what you hated, and what you’re trying to avoid.
Follow-ups that make sense: 2–4 weeks, then 3–6 months
If we adjust your skincare routine, a 2–4 week follow-up is usually the sweet spot. It’s enough time to see real change, but soon enough that we can correct course quickly.
For injectables or longer-term plans, 3–6 months is a common maintenance window, depending on your goals and how your body responds. We’ll give you a realistic schedule instead of a one-size-fits-all timeline.
Our Van Ness Corridor and Civic Center (Lower Nob Hill area) location makes quick check-ins easy for people coming from Civic Center BART, MUNI, and the Van Ness buses. We also regularly see clients from Daly City, Colma, South San Francisco, Sausalito, and Oakland who want a plan that stays consistent even when life gets busy.
Ready for a clear plan? Book your consultation, bring a few reference photos, and we’ll map out next steps you can actually follow. If you’re unsure what you need, start with our services page to get oriented.
A quick note on our 30-minute Consultation appointment
Our consultation service is booked as a one-on-one, professional appointment to evaluate what you want to achieve and what’s going to support it. We’ll talk through hair health and your target look, and reference pictures help us get on the same page fast.
If you’re planning other beauty services with us too, that consult becomes the “anchor” that keeps everything consistent, so your brows, lashes, skin, and overall look all match the same natural direction.
